Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy which is often abbreviated to "OT", incorporates meaningful and purposeful occupation to enable people with limitations of impairments to participate in everyday life.

Our Occupational Therapists work with individuals to facilitate health and well-being through the engagement or re-engagement that gives individuals the skills necessary for the job of living life to it's fullest.

NW Rehab's team of professional licensed therapists gather information in order to work towards self-care and play activities to increase development and prevent disablility.  To reach these goals we include training in activities of daily living to enhance the quality of life.

Our process includes goal setting and action planning so that we can reach our outcome and outcome measurement.

An assessment of the need for adaptive equipment such as Pencil Grips, Peg Boards, wheelchairs, orthotics and aids for eating and dressing.

With the appropriate recommendations and training we improve position to reduce deformity or edema, as well as manage pain through splints and other equipment.

In conclusion an individuals occupation can be defined as the way we occupy our time daily.

There are categories that NW Rehab makes our main OT focus.

  • Self-Care: sleeping, eating, grooming, dressing, and toileting.

  • Work: effort that is exerted to do or make something, or perform a task.

  • Leisure: free, unoccupied time in which one chooses to do something they enjoy (i.e., hobby, tv, socializing, reading, and writing, etc.)
  • To sum up the OT experience is to increase function and independence.
